Biography
Harutoki Shimura is a membrane scientist and the Leader of the Middle East Water Treatment Technical Center at Toray Membrane Middle East LLC.
He has more than 15 years of experience in research and development of polyamide reverse osmosis membrane. His research has addressed membrane nanostructure, durability, and long-term performance stability, and he has played a central role in developing core technologies behind several brackish and seawater RO membranes widely used today. Currently, his work bridges membrane science and real plant operation, supporting energy-efficient and sustainable desalination through membrane innovation, system integration, and technical collaboration.
