Prof. Peter Desmond leads the Urban Water Management Lab at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), Qatar, with a joint affiliation at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. His work focuses on resilient urban water systems across desalination, wastewater reuse, and water distribution, with emphasis on membrane-based treatment, seawater reverse osmosis, reclaimed water polishing, biological treatment intensification, and digital water-quality monitoring.

His research supports the development of applied solutions for arid and water-stressed regions, linking laboratory studies, pilot-scale validation, process modelling, and field-relevant implementation. Prof. Desmond works closely with academic, government, and industry partners to advance next-generation water infrastructure, circular resource recovery, and predictive monitoring of potable and non-potable networks.
